It really doesn't matter. All languages are compiled down to C code in the end, so efficiency is pretty much the same for all of them. That being said, your experience as a programmer, and the type of task you want to accomplish can greatly influence the efficiency of the final code. For example, it is quite hard to design
state machines on ladder logic, which means that you can introduce a series of unneeded operations to the program, which perhaps could be written more clearly in, for example, SFC or Structured Text.
